Bespoke Commission FAQs
Every custom stained glass piece is hand-crafted from scratch, tailored to your specification. If you are thinking about commissioning a custom piece, here are the answers to some of the most common questions about how the process works, pricing, and timelines.
How are prices calculated?
Every custom piece is entirely hand-cut, grinded, painted, foiled, and soldered to your specifications. My pieces generally range from £100 to £1,000+. Smaller custom pieces are also available under £100 upon request. Pricing varies based on a few core factors. The overall cost is calculated using a combination of size and design complexity:
- Size and Scale: Pricing is generally measured by overall square footage. Larger statement panels require more raw materials, and time than smaller, free-hanging suncatchers. Please note: subjects may be required to be a minimum size to capture detail.
- Design Complexity & Piece Count: A design featuring simple geometric lines requires fewer individual cuts and less time than an intricate piece with dozens of tiny, detailed glass shapes.
- Painting: If your design calls for custom-painted elements, such as facial features, fine linework, text, or delicate shading - this can increase the price of the piece.
- Glass Selection: The types of glass chosen for your palette can influence the overall material cost.
How do I communicate my idea and reference photos with you?
To get started, simply fill out the Bespoke Commission Form that you will recieve via email after purchasing the Bespoke Commission Deposit. The form walks you through your project vision & inspiration, the desired size, shape & display, the colour & glass selection, and budget, timeline & logistics. It also includes a file upload section where you can easily attach reference photos, mood boards, sketches, or pictures.
Important: You must opt-in to marketing emails during checkout. Without this, our system cannot automatically send your bespoke commission form link.
(Please note: To upload your reference photos securely, Google requires you to be signed into a Google (Gmail) account to fill out the form).
If you'd rather not receive future promotional updates, you can safely unsubscribe using the link at the very bottom of the email without affecting our communication - I will still email you directly regarding your commission.
Once you submit the Bespoke Commission Form, all further communication, design sketches, glass selections, and quote approvals will take place via email. This keeps a clear, written record of your vision, dimensions, and project milestones so nothing gets lost along the way.
Once the final design and quote are agreed upon, you will receive a secure digital invoice for the full amount. Shipping is not included in this quote. Once payment has been recieved I will begin production on your bespoke piece.
How does Shipping & Delivery work?
Because commissioned artworks vary significantly in size and weight, shipping requirements must be tailored to each specific piece. Once your commission is completed, shipping costs will be calculated individually to provide a precise and fair quote for your specific location. Larger pieces will require specialized packaging and handling to guarantee they arrive undamaged.
- I will send you a separate, secure digital invoice for the exact packaging and shipping costs.
- Once the shipping invoice is paid, I will securely package the piece ready for dispatch.
All finished pieces will ship out during the week leading up to a new drop, this date will always be pinned to the announcement bar at the top of the site. When possible, pieces will be shipped out sooner. As a single-person operation managing every step from creation to packing, batching fulfillment into one dedicated week allows me to completely separate admin and packing time from the creative process, letting me pour all my focus and energy back into making the work you love. Thank you so much for your patience and understanding as I navigate this solo.
Estimated Shipping Costs - Exact quotes will depend on the final dimensions, distance, and carrier. As a general guide:
- Small Commissions: UK Mainland: £7.99, United States & International: £49.99.
- Medium Commissions: UK Mainland: £14.99, United States & International: £79.99.
- Large Commissions: UK Mainland: £50 - £150, United States & International: £350 - £700+.
For buyers located within the UK, I am able to arrange personal delivery for large commissions. If you prefer this option, we can discuss the logistics, scheduling, and personal delivery rates for your location during the commission process.
How long will my commission take?
Most of my pieces take 2 to 8 weeks from the moment the deposit is finalized to the day your piece is ready for shipping. The exact timeline depends on the complexity of your piece, moving through these key stages:
- Glass Selection and initialising (1-2 weeks): Sketches, refining dimensions, and selecting the exact glass sheets. This will also likley include ordering in new glass.
- Cutting, Painting, Foiling & Soldering (1-5 weeks): Hand-cutting every individual piece of glass, grinding the edges, painting details, wrapping them in copper foil, and soldering the entire panel together.
- Finishing, Patina & Polishing (1 week): Applying chemical patina (if desired), thorough cleaning, and applying protective polish to buff solder lines.
If you have a strict deadline for a specific event, anniversary, or holiday, please mention it in your initial inquiry so I can confirm if I can accommodate a rush order.
Will my commission be shared on social media?
As an artist, I love sharing the journey of bringing my pieces to life! Photos and videos of your commission, such as progress pictures or the final reveal, may be featured on my social channels (like Instagram, TikTok, Youtube etc.). However, if you prefer to keep it private, let me know - no questions asked, and I will not share anything about your commission on my social channels.
Do you accept every commission request?
I reserve the right to decline a commission request if it falls outside my artistic style, requests hard deadlines that cannot reasonably be completed without compromising my works integrity, or feature subjects that are not feasible to translate to glass. If a project isn't the right fit for me, I will let you know promptly.
If a commission request isn't quite working or faces technical hurdles, I will always collaborate with you to find a creative solution or adapt the concept so it can be brought to life in glass.
Can I have more than one commission at a time?
Yes, you are welcome to commission more than one piece at the same time! To keep each project organized and secure it's place in my queue, please purchase a separate deposit for each individual piece you would like to order.
